Information Update 2/11/09
Hello everyone. Well done on the wins in both divisions againist the dingoes. Mr Yeoh, father of Nicholas, has been taking photos during the matches in the last couple of rounds. If you would like to see them, view the album on Nicholas’s profile on facebook. We will have a gallery of photos up shortly. Also, several dingoes players are selling thongs for $10 which will raise funds for them so that they can head to the World Champs in December. We have one player (Tara) who is headed there so please support them.
Thank You,

Prior to the game, coach-player King instructed his young brigade to test the goalkeeper out with plenty of shots to see how good he was. It took one shot from Adrian to put the Sharks on the board which was assisted by Morgan. However, the opposition responded by a break down in communication in which they were able to score through the hole that was created on the left side. Another goal to Adrian saw the Sharks hit the front again. With the four minutes to go, the Mod Dogs gave away a bench penalty for a high stick. Some may say we were lucky to receive this powerplay as infact the closest player to him was yours truly who was five metres away. Again it was Adrian who scored the goal in which it was Adrian 3 – Mod Dogs 1. With 15 seconds on the clock, Mod Dogs were able to score through a counter-attack. So at the break it was Revo 3 – MD 2. The second period was a relatively quitely one for the team. We were able to press forward but only two goals came as a result through Oli and Captain Broome. Steve K saved what would have been a certain goal had he not been there. As a result of this, he conceded a penalty for being in the goalkeeper’s box. In which Zac, made an effortless save with his helmet. With one to play it was RS 5 – MD 2. MD had changed their tactics when going forward to a man to man zone, which allowed RS to make quick passes through the space they left us and we were able to coninue to put scoreboard pressure on them with three goals comign in ten minutes from Nicholas, Steve and Alex. That was Alex’s first goal for the team. We want plenty more than were that came from. Mod Dogs got the next two goals courtesy of the boys becoming lazy and not helping out the defence. To finish the game Steve Broome scored a goal for Revo to make the final score 9-4.
Round 3 A’s Match Report – Pirates White
This weeks A Div match was against Pirates White, aka Buccaneers. It was an intense match from the start with Jake making 6 saves in the first period. The Buccaneers were giving it their all from word go, which put their No.7, Mike van Noort in the sin bin for ‘Incorrect Hit’ for 2 mins at 6mins09. This gave us a good opportunity to score and Mauritz wasn’t going to let that pass! He fired the ball into the goal to put us into the lead with 1-0 (7mins07, assist No.30 Jimmy Laurell). Our lead was short-lived because the Buccaneers scored closely after us at 10mins54, putting it passed our defense at close range (No.6, Brad Girvan, assist No.8 Jake York).
The second period started off with another 2min bench penalty to the Buccaneers – this time their No.5, Ed Williams, for ‘Hands/Arm’. Our No.27, Kieth Tan, was ready for a little fun and maybe a kitchen…hanging around the back of the goals during the Power-Play he Zorro’d a goal and stole a kitchen from the Buccaneer defense! (4mins34, no assist). During this time another delayed 2min bench penalty was called against Buccaneers. No.7 was penalised for ‘Incorrect Push’ so the Buccaneers were still down one man despite No.5 being excused from the bench (4mins34). Keith had decided it was his day, so he scored another from just in front of the goals (5mins45, assist No.11 David Westlund). This put us in the lead, 3-1. During the second period Oli Diffen and Adrian Baster made their debuts in an A match for the season. Oli fired off a rocket of a shot which was caught by Buccaneers goalie, Michael Bircher. Our defense was getting a run for its money as the Buccaneers were desperate to even the scoreline, but it wasn’t to be. Jake, Pat and Shane had it covered. Pat made a huge five blocks in the second period alone and Shane made five throughout the game. It was a top effort from the defense in the second period – Buccaneers didn’t put one past us.
The scoring in the third period started with a turn-over in our defense by Jimmy at 3mins. Jimmy put the ball in the net, assisted by Mauritz to take the scoreline to 4-1 (3mins04). It was an intense period. The Buccaneers were desperate to score and they were trying their best to put us under pressure. The adrenaline was flowing and Lucas gave an Incorrect Push which landed him a 2min bench penalty (13mins33). Our defense was tight as and no goals were conceded during the Short Handed Play. Lucas quickly made up for his momentary loss of control by roofing the ball into the Buccaneer net 14 seconds after he stepped off the penalty bench, assisted by our No.15 Espen Kjerup Jorgenson (15mins47). Shortly thereafter David had a moment in the spotlight with an almost casual wrist-shot of the ball into the left-hand-side of the net, bringing our score up to 6-1 (16mins20, no assist). The Buccaneers kept fighting it out and managed one more goal before the end of the period at 17mins11 (No.6, Brad Girvan, assist No.7 Mike van Noort). We should be proud of our efforts in the third period with 24 shots, exactly double the number of the Buccaneers shots, including a very close miss by Espen on a Short-Handed Play. Well Done!

Round Two vs Pirates A’s Match Report
Hi Everyone
In a challenging second match for the season our A’s boys had to fight hard for their win vs Pirates Black this week.
Pirates were the first on the scoreboard, scoring in just under 7 minutes into the first period. However, this was not an omen for the game: Lucas, Mauritz and Jimmy led the rest of the team to a 2-1 win over the first period. (Goal 1: Lucas, assist Jimmy, Goal 2: Mauritz, assist Jimmy).
In the second and third periods it was neck-and-neck on the scoreboard. Mauritz started it off at 2mins10sec (3-1) , assisted by Jimmy, then the Pirates scored shortly after at 3mins (3-2). It was a fierce match throughout the second period, both goalies were being hammered by the offense of the opposing teams. Pirates player No 6 (Tom Dunn) received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Playing Lying Down’ which gave the Sharks a chance to get further ahead but alas, our very own Jimmy Laurell was given a 2min bench penalty for ‘Pushing’ in a 50/50 ball contest when he sent Captain of the Pirates, Jonathon Veron, flying into the boards. This left the teams 4-a-piece for what felt like the longest minute of the game. It wasn’t until both teams were back to full strength that our Captain, Patrick Baster, managed to get the ball rolling again. Assisted by Mauritz, Pat sent one flying into the right hand side of the net to set our score to 4-2 (12mins32). Pirates crept back to 4-3 by the end of the second period thanks to their No. 22, Martin Albrecht.
After assisting everyone else Jimmy scored his first goal for the game early in the third period, assisted by Shane (5-3, 2min09). Again Pirates crept the score back at 3mins to make it 5-4. Benny Mitch wasn’t so keen on the Pirates getting their way, so he went for a run up forwards in his Cannonball way and converted! (6-4, 5mins43, assist Lucas Westlund) At 7mins48 Pirates received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Header’, sat by their No.8. This was a good opportunity for Sharks to increase that score difference but it wasn’t to be. Jonathon Veron scored a one-on-one short-handed goal (6-5, 9mins05, no assist). The tension of the game was peaking, Benny Mitch thought we were behind so he revved everyone up to take more chances to score. In the 14th minute Pirates was penalised for ‘Repeated Offences’ during a goal-scoring opportunity for the Sharks. Our team was awarded a penalty shot and Albrecht received a 2min bench penalty. Jimmy took the penalty shot and converted, slipping it past Pirate Goalie-Jason Petty’s left to bring the score to 7-5 (14mins41, no assist). The Pirates did not give in. They continued to fight for a win until the last seconds of the game. It was an immensely entertaining match to watch. Well done Everyone.

Welcome and Round 1 vs Redbacks
Hi Everyone
I’m Rebecca Wood, manager of the Sharks A’s. I’d just like to say a big welcome to everyone for the new season, A players and B players alike. I’ll be sending you all emails about what time to be at the games on Sundays and I’ll try to give a report on each of the games in the following week.
This week Sharks A’s and B’s made a notable entrance into the new season. The B’s led the way for the A’s, smashing the Redbacks B’s with a 9-1 win! Steve Broome, our B’s Captain should be proud of the efforts the B’s boys put in, especially Morgan Emms (1 goal, 2 assists), Nicolas Yeoh (2 goals, 1 assist) and Oli Diffen (3 goals). Our other point scorers were Steve Broome – 1 goal, Justin Blades – 1 goal, and Adrian Baster – 1 assist. A fantastic start to the new season and hopefully a foreshadow for the rounds to come! Well Done guys, all that training is really coming in handy, let’s keep it up!
The A’s faced a hard game vs the Redbacks A’s on Sunday, it was definitely a nail-biter for those on the sideline! We ended up with a win, 4-3. The score-line was 1-1, 3-0, 0-2 (Sharks – Redbacks for periods 1, 2 & 3). The first period was a bit of a shock to the system when we found the floor as slippery as ice – Mauritz can tell you all about it: he had to sit a 2min penalty for Playing Lying Down. We soon adjusted to the new conditions and had a convincing second period followed by some unlucky goals conceded in the third period. Our team Captain this year is Pat Baster, congratulations Pat. Point scorers this week were Shane Abbott – 1 assist, Mauritz Hermansson – 1 goal, David Westlund – 1 goal, Keith Tan – 1 goal, and Jimmy Laurell – 1 goal, 2 assists. Great work Sharks!
Next weeks games will be at the same time, B’s will play at 2:30, please get to Lords before 2pm and the A’s will play at 4pm, please get to Lords before 3:30pm to warm up, team talk, etc.
That’s it from me for now. I hope to see you all at training on Tuesday night, 6:30pm at Newman College.
Cheers
Rebecca Wood
