Round 7 A’s Match Report

November 22nd saw the Sharks a little light on for players with only 8 court players and a goalkeeper in the A’s. The Pirates may have thought that they had the game in the bag for this reason, but Espen and Adrian soon shocked them out of any such securities (2mins30, goal #15 Espen Kjerup Jorgensen, assist #6 Adrian Baster). The first period was dominated by the Pirates efforts to score, but they couldn’t break through the tight Sharks’ defense, so #10 Don O’Brien may have helped them along, scoring an own goal on goalkeeper #91 Jacob Stanley (17mins50).

Sharks started the scoring again at 2mins30, this time #11 David Westlund slipped it past Pirates goalkeeper #1 Jason Petty (assist #13 Pat Baster). Adrian increased the score margin from a prime spot in the goal square to 3-1 at 6mins11 (goal #6 Adrian, assist #15 Espen). At 13mins00 Pirate player #5 Derek Kippo scored the first true goal for his team assisted by #3 Jonathon Veron. Pirates then drew the scores at 3 a piece thanks to their player #2, Trevor Lynn (14mins00, assist #7 Luca Ray-Hills). Were the Sharks worried? Aparently not for long, as David scored in 30 seconds to bring Sharks back into the lead (14mins30, goal #11, assist #13). Captain Pat Baster (#13) scored his first goal for the match at 17mins50 to increase Sharks’ lead to 5-3 (assist #15 Espen).

Action in the third period started at 8mins00 when Espen scored unassisted. It took Pirates only 30secs to make a successful counter-attack, P#2 Trevor Lynn scored his second goal of the match, assisted by P#25 Stefan Ray-Hills (8mins30). Pirates were trying to break the Sharks defense, but to no further avail. Pirates player #25 was given a 2min bench penalty for Header. The bench penalty had no effect on the game, as Sharks couldn’t get an effective PowerPlay rolling. The 2 minutes passed uneventfully. At 14mins50 P#2 scored his third goal of the game, sealing a hat-trick, assisted by #25. The Sharks leading margin was disappearing, it was an intense last 5 minutes of the match! The Pirates were keen to score another goal, launching attack after attack on the Sharks defense, and in the dying seconds of the game… Espen Kjerup Jorgensen slips one past the Pirates defense! (19mins59, goal #15 Espen Jorgensen, assist #11 David Westlund).

A great finish!

Round Two vs Pirates A’s Match Report

Hi Everyone

In a challenging second match for the season our A’s boys had to fight hard for their win vs Pirates Black this week.

Pirates were the first on the scoreboard, scoring in just under 7 minutes into the first period. However, this was not an omen for the game: Lucas, Mauritz and Jimmy led the rest of the team to a 2-1 win over the first period. (Goal 1: Lucas, assist Jimmy, Goal 2: Mauritz, assist Jimmy).

In the second and third periods it was neck-and-neck on the scoreboard. Mauritz started it off at 2mins10sec (3-1) , assisted by Jimmy, then the Pirates scored shortly after at 3mins (3-2). It was a fierce match throughout the second period, both goalies were being hammered by the offense of the opposing teams. Pirates player No 6 (Tom Dunn) received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Playing Lying Down’ which gave the Sharks a chance to get further ahead but alas, our very own Jimmy Laurell was given a 2min bench penalty for ‘Pushing’ in a 50/50 ball contest when he sent Captain of the Pirates, Jonathon Veron, flying into the boards. This left the teams 4-a-piece for what felt like the longest minute of the game. It wasn’t until both teams were back to full strength that our Captain, Patrick Baster, managed to get the ball rolling again. Assisted by Mauritz, Pat sent one flying into the right hand side of the net to set our score to 4-2 (12mins32). Pirates crept back to 4-3 by the end of the second period thanks to their No. 22, Martin Albrecht.

After assisting everyone else Jimmy scored his first goal for the game early in the third period, assisted by Shane (5-3, 2min09). Again Pirates crept the score back at 3mins to make it 5-4. Benny Mitch wasn’t so keen on the Pirates getting their way, so he went for a run up forwards in his Cannonball way and converted! (6-4, 5mins43, assist Lucas Westlund) At 7mins48 Pirates received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Header’, sat by their No.8. This was a good opportunity for Sharks to increase that score difference but it wasn’t to be. Jonathon Veron scored a one-on-one short-handed goal (6-5, 9mins05, no assist). The tension of the game was peaking, Benny Mitch thought we were behind so he revved everyone up to take more chances to score. In the 14th minute Pirates was penalised for ‘Repeated Offences’ during a goal-scoring opportunity for the Sharks. Our team was awarded a penalty shot and Albrecht received a 2min bench penalty. Jimmy took theĀ  penalty shot and converted, slipping it past Pirate Goalie-Jason Petty’s left to bring the score to 7-5 (14mins41, no assist). The Pirates did not give in. They continued to fight for a win until the last seconds of the game. It was an immensely entertaining match to watch. Well done Everyone.
