Match Report v Dingoes B 1/11/09

The competition leaders played the Dingoes (2-1) in an early morning game. Sok decided to join the Dingoes as goalkeeper to try and stem the flow of goals as we are leading the competition in goals with 26. However, he should have been keeping in the A game as their other keeper didn’t have the best of games (with 8 going past him). Please see R.Wood report for the details. It was a tight first period as neither team was able to get any advantage. However, when S.Abbott and S.King had made an incorrect substitution, Abbott was sent to the bench as a result. With four on the field the diamond defence “T.Moore, S.Broome, N.Yeoh and J.Blades” never looked like conceding a goal. With Abbott returning to the field, Moore flicked one over the top of the defence, which was chased down by Blades, who put a magnificent pass across goal and when he combined with fellow Haleian, S.Abbott he put the ball into the back of the net. Revolution 1 – Dingoes 0. In the second period, Blades and King, were both given 2 minute penalties. Diffen received a monster cork and looked like playing no further part in the game. Sharks were not able to capitalise from the opposition’s weak defence. The third period began with King doing a hamstring inside the first five minutes leaving the team down to eight fit players. However, Diffen returned but had little impact on the game. With six minutes remaining the team was able to stop the run of the opposition and began to hold the ball in order to not allow the opposition to touch it. A.Baster passed backward to defender Yeoh and he found a small hole in their formation which he used to score a goal. Final Score: Revolution Sharks 2 – Dingoes

Information Update 2/11/09

Hello everyone. Well done on the wins in both divisions againist the dingoes. Mr Yeoh, father of Nicholas, has been taking photos during the matches in the last couple of rounds. If you would like to see them, view the album on Nicholas’s profile on facebook. We will have a gallery of photos up shortly. Also, several dingoes players are selling thongs for $10 which will raise funds for them so that they can head to the World Champs in December. We have one player (Tara) who is headed there so please support them.

Match Report vs Mod Dogs

19 Steve Broome – Captain
23 Justin Blades
24 Nicholas Yeoh
25 Oli Diffen

77 Steve King

Prior to the game, coach-player King instructed his young brigade to test the goalkeeper out with plenty of shots to see how good he was. It took one shot from Adrian to put the Sharks on the board which was assisted by Morgan. However, the opposition responded by a break down in communication in which they were able to score through the hole that was created on the left side.  Another goal to Adrian saw the Sharks hit the front again. With the four minutes to go, the Mod Dogs gave away a bench penalty for a high stick. Some may say we were lucky to receive this powerplay as infact the closest player to him was yours truly who was five metres away. Again it was Adrian who scored the goal in which it was Adrian 3 – Mod Dogs 1. With 15 seconds on the clock, Mod Dogs were able to score through a counter-attack. So at the break it was Revo 3 – MD 2. The second period was a relatively quitely one for the team. We were able to press forward but only two goals came as a result through Oli and Captain Broome. Steve K saved what would have been a certain goal had he not been there. As a result of this, he conceded a penalty for being in the goalkeeper’s box. In which Zac, made an effortless save with his helmet. With one to play it was RS 5 – MD 2. MD had changed their tactics when going forward to a man to man zone, which allowed RS to make quick passes through the space they left us and we were able to coninue to put scoreboard pressure on them with three goals comign in ten minutes from Nicholas, Steve and Alex. That was Alex’s first goal for the team. We want plenty more than were that came from. Mod Dogs got the next two goals courtesy of the boys becoming lazy and not helping out the defence. To finish the game Steve Broome scored a goal for Revo to make the final score 9-4.
