Sharks B were up against Pirates B again and expecting a win despite low numbers. They certainly gave the Pirates’ defense a shock, #24 Nicholas Yeoh scoring the first goal of the match at 1min43 (no assist). It was all Sharks in the first period: the Pirates didn’t make it onto the scoreboard. Sharks #25 Oli Diffen scored at 5mins13 (no assist) and #40 Gaurav Ghosh scored at 7mins20, also unassisted.

The second period saw Pirates come back with some energy scoring an early goal (1min07, goal P#13 Chris Wallace, assist P#25 Taneeka Labrooy). Unfortunately for the Pirates that was all the scoring they did for the whole period. Sharks had control over the rest of the period scoring another four goals. (2mins58, goal #25, assist #24; 4mins43, goal #40, assist #24; 14mins25, goal #25, assist #40; 15mins50, goal #40, no assist).

The third period saw Sharks dominate the game once again, scoring two goals early on (2mins33, goal #24, no assist; 3mins25, goal #19 Steve Broome, assist #24). The Pirates managed to string some passes together and score a couple of quick goals (6mins54, goal #41 Daniel Steffanoni, no assist; 7mins57 goal #27 Ben Rose, assist #13). The Sharks received a 2min bench penalty for “Playing Lying Down,” sat by #40 Gaurav. The Pirates couldn’t string together a smooth PowerPlay and obtained no advantage from the 2min bench penalty. The Sharks were beyond reach to the Pirates. Sharks widened the score margin once back at full-strength at 14mins25 thanks to Oli (#25, no assist). The Pirates, in a last attempt to catch the Sharks scored one more goal for the game at 17mins36 (#27, no assist).

Another solid win against the Pirates!

10-4 (3-0, 1-4, 3-3)

November 22nd saw the Sharks a little light on for players with only 8 court players and a goalkeeper in the A’s. The Pirates may have thought that they had the game in the bag for this reason, but Espen and Adrian soon shocked them out of any such securities (2mins30, goal #15 Espen Kjerup Jorgensen, assist #6 Adrian Baster). The first period was dominated by the Pirates efforts to score, but they couldn’t break through the tight Sharks’ defense, so #10 Don O’Brien may have helped them along, scoring an own goal on goalkeeper #91 Jacob Stanley (17mins50).

Sharks started the scoring again at 2mins30, this time #11 David Westlund slipped it past Pirates goalkeeper #1 Jason Petty (assist #13 Pat Baster). Adrian increased the score margin from a prime spot in the goal square to 3-1 at 6mins11 (goal #6 Adrian, assist #15 Espen). At 13mins00 Pirate player #5 Derek Kippo scored the first true goal for his team assisted by #3 Jonathon Veron. Pirates then drew the scores at 3 a piece thanks to their player #2, Trevor Lynn (14mins00, assist #7 Luca Ray-Hills). Were the Sharks worried? Aparently not for long, as David scored in 30 seconds to bring Sharks back into the lead (14mins30, goal #11, assist #13). Captain Pat Baster (#13) scored his first goal for the match at 17mins50 to increase Sharks’ lead to 5-3 (assist #15 Espen).

Action in the third period started at 8mins00 when Espen scored unassisted. It took Pirates only 30secs to make a successful counter-attack, P#2 Trevor Lynn scored his second goal of the match, assisted by P#25 Stefan Ray-Hills (8mins30). Pirates were trying to break the Sharks defense, but to no further avail. Pirates player #25 was given a 2min bench penalty for Header. The bench penalty had no effect on the game, as Sharks couldn’t get an effective PowerPlay rolling. The 2 minutes passed uneventfully. At 14mins50 P#2 scored his third goal of the game, sealing a hat-trick, assisted by #25. The Sharks leading margin was disappearing, it was an intense last 5 minutes of the match! The Pirates were keen to score another goal, launching attack after attack on the Sharks defense, and in the dying seconds of the game… Espen Kjerup Jorgensen slips one past the Pirates defense! (19mins59, goal #15 Espen Jorgensen, assist #11 David Westlund).

A great finish!

7-5 (1-1, 4-2, 3-2)

The B’s had a lot to live up to in Round Six following their win against Kookas, perhaps the next strongest team, and their previous win against Redbacks 9-1 in Round One. The Redbacks brought their all, all 17 of their players and four support staff! It was a lovely sight to see: so many people from one area getting into floorball! Keep it up Redbacks!

The game started slowly. Sharks had a lot of possession early in the first period but couldn’t convert to a goal. Once again it was Captain Steve Broome who lead the boys in the scoring (15mins40, goal #19 Steve Broome, no assist). Shortly thereafter at 18mins35 Sharks player #5 Shane Abbott scored the second goal of the match (assist #14 Tim Moore). The third and final goal of the period was scored by #29 Alex Egggleston assisted by #17 Ben Mitchell (19mins20). Redbacks held the Sharks back at the start of the period but couldn’t recover from the first Sharks goal.

Just over half-way through the second period the Redbacks called a time-out (13mins24). Sharks had yet to score and were certainly getting hungry for another goal. Only one Sharks goal got through in the second period, 56 seconds after the Redbacks timeout! (14mins20, goal #5 Shane, assist #25 Oli Diffen)

The action of the third period started at 8mins22 when Sharks player #24 Nicholas Yeoh scored, assisted by Shane. Oli scored the last goal of the match early on in the period at 10mins05 (no assist).

A relatively laid-back game the boys proved their dominance in a shut-out game for Goalkeeper Zach Teo and his defenders!

6-0 (3-0, 1-0, 2-0)

Round Six was upon us, the Revolution Sharks were up against the Redbacks once again. In Round One The Redbacks fell to the Sharks in a tight game where they nearly regained control in the last period. (4-3: 1-1, 3-0, 0-2) Was it going to be as close a game this time around?

The first period started out well for the Sharks, with Captain Pat Baster #13 scoring the first goal, unassisted at 4mins35. He was followed shortly by Sharks #15, Espen Kjerup Jorgensen, who scored at 6mins50, also unassisted. Redbacks #7, Anthony Boteler upset the umpires with his protesting and was given a 2min bench penalty for just that, “Protesting” at 6mins58. The Sharks wore down the Redbacks defence for just over a minute before Sharks player #11 David Westlund slotted the ball into the goal, assisted by #30, Jimmy Laurell at 8mins00. The rest of the period was intense and the Sharks were unlucky not to score another goal. Redbacks #32, Timothy Boteler scored in a breakaway goal, unassisted, at 16mins56.

The second period started with another bench penalty served by the Redbacks. This time it was served by R#13, Cameron Devine for “Incorrect Substitution” (2mins04). It took the Sharks only 24 seconds to find a hole in the Redbacks defense, scoring at 2mins28, #2 Lucas Westlund converted assisted by #30, Jimmy. It took the Redbacks five minutes to get the ball back down their end of the court and score a goal (7mins38, goal R#44 Marcus O’Neill, assist R#84 Glen Holland). The second half of the period was dominated by the Sharks. The Redbacks defense was under fire, being hammered again and again by the Sharks offense. Redbacks goalie #91 Josh Davey was having a brilliant game, pulling saves that weren’t thought possible! The Sharks did not score again in the second period.

Adrian Baster (#6) made the most of the first 8 seconds of the third period, scoring our fifth goal for the game unassisted. He certainly gave the Redbacks a shock! Lucas and Don did a good job of backing up Adrian’s goal at 3mins00, (goal #2 Lucas, assist #10 Don O’Brien.) The next goal of the period was from Espen, assisted by Jimmy at 10mins20. Pat obtained a 2min bench penalty for “Incorrect Hit” at 14mins48. The Redbacks certainly didn’t take advantage of the PowerPlay situation, almost conceding a goal three times thanks to break away chances by Espen and Mauritz. After a quick sub, Lucas did manage to score during a Redbacks Power Play, assisted by David (16mins53). In the last seconds of the period Redbacks scored their third goal, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Sharks (19mins48, goal R#44 Marcus O’Neill, assist R#32 Timothy Boteler).

A huge improvement on the first round!
8-3 (3-1, 1-1, 4-1)

This could be the grand final match-up! It was the closest game for the Sharks B so far this season. The first period was hard-fought but to no advantage for either team, or maybe a little to the disadvantage of the Sharks, as we scored an own-goal 3 minutes in.

The second period was far more up-beat, with Sharks winning the period 5-1 to take the score for the game to 5-2. Captain Steve Broome #19 got the ball rolling at 7mins58, assisted by Adrian Baster #6. He was followed shortly by Adrian who, at 9mins18 scored the second goal, assisted by Morgan Emms #7. Nicholas Yeoh #24 was the next of our players to shine in the limelight, scoring his first goal of the match unassisted at 11mins23. Kookas were then awarded a 2min bench penalty at 13mins12 for “Incorrect Hit” (K#28 Alistair McFayden), and one minute later Nick scored his second goal for the game assisted by Gaurav Ghosh #40. The Kookas rebutted with a goal from player #6, Richard Cram, assisted by #10 Leith Woods at 16mins24. The period ended on a high note thanks to Captain Steve Broome who scored his second goal, assisted by Nick at 18mins12.

The third period was slightly less of a scoring frenzy. Nick started the scoring at 10mins01, sealing himself a hat-trick for the game, once again an un-assisted goal. Well done Nick! Kookas weren’t so pleased, so they responded at 14mins09 with a goal scored by Richard Cram assisted by player #3 Pat Upton-Davies. It wasn’t long until the Sharks had the ball down their end of the court again, when at 16mins09 Nick scored again! (assist #6 Adrian Baster) And to finish it all off Captain Steve scored the final goal, also making a hat-trick of the game. (17mins27, assist #24 Nicholas Yeoh).

8-3 (0-1, 5-1, 3-1)

08.11.2009

It was Round 5 on the FAWA calendar, the last game of the first set of round robin games. The Revolution Sharks were pitted against the WA Kookas. The first period started started on a high for the Sharks, when two and a half minutes into the period Keith Tan, our player #27 was awarded a delayed penalty shot. It was our Singaporean Shark, a keen goal-scorer, vs the Czech goalie Vladimir Plocek, Australian Champion at the AFO 2009 Tournament. It looked like a sure goal but alas Plocek prevailed and the score remained unchanged at 0-0.

The Kookas had the Sharks defense in the pressure-cooker, firing off a huge 15 shots, compared to our three shots in the first period. Only one shot got through either defense at 10mins52 (goal: #11 David Westlund, assist: #2 Lucas Westlund.)

The second period was just as gruelling in defense, which is an unusual behavior for the Kookas as a club, who usually play a more defensive game. They fired off another 14 clean shots, and had another four which missed, or hit the post. The Sharks responded well, scoring an early goal at 1min31 (goal: #2 Lucas Westlund, no assist) which was answered by a Kookas goal shortly thereafter at 2mins08 (goal: K#3 Tania Perpoli, no assist.). Kookas took control of the period from that point onwards, scoring three more goals in the period at 3mins25 (goal: K#22 Roger Sallaenbach, assist: K#3 Tania Perpoli), another at 17mins07 (goal: K#8 Timothy Campbell, assist: K#22 Roger Sallaenbach) and finally at 18mins28 (goal: K#8 Timothy Campbell, assist: K#22 Roger Sallaenbach). The Kookas had a convincing lead closing the second period with the score at 2-4 (Sharks-Kookas).

The third period was upon us, it was the time to take back the game. It was a hard battle, the first goal of the period was scored by our #2 Lucas Westlund assisted by captain Patrick Baster at 11mins22. Sharks were regaining the game when Don O’Brien, our #10 was given a two minute penalty for “Holding” at 13mins37. Although the Kookas had the advantage in numbers they didn’t take advantage of their opportunity, almost conceding a goal to #11 David Westlund. With a mere 1min23 to go the Sharks scored the equalising goal in a delayed penalty shot taken by David.

A nail-biting game!

4-4 (1-0, 1-3, 2-1)

On 1st November it was Revolution Sharks vs Dingoes in both A and B Divisions. Sharks were well prepared with a match record bustling with fourteen players and two officials, the most people we’ve had sit on our bench so far this year! It was a cracker of a first period, with three goals to none – a period shut-out for our goalie No. 91 Jacob Stanley. A fantastic effort by all, we scored one shorthanded goal (no.11 David Westlund), and two full strength goals (No.2 Lucas Westlund, No.27 Keith Tan). No.9 Mauritz Hermansson was given a 2 minute bench penalty for “Playing Lying Down,” (13mins09) but it had no negative effect on our game: the Dingoes only took one shot during their Power Play while Sharks No.11 David Westlund managed a Short Handed goal (14mins46).

The second period saw the Sharks victorious again, and with another shut-out from Jake, at 4-0. Sharks No. 15 Espen Jorgensen started the scoring early in the period at 0mins28, assisted by Lucas. At 1min31 our No.11, David Westlund assisted the Dingoes in scoring an Own Goal. It was a long wait until the Swedish duo Mauritz and No.30 Jimmy Laurell put the ball into the net at 16mins48 (goal scorer No.9 Mauritz Hermansson, assisted by No.30 Jimmy Laurell). And not too long after that did Espen get his second goal for the match, assisted by David (17mins42).

The third period was intense. The Dingoes scored their first goal for the game late in the period at 14mins49 (goal scorer No.31 Niall Geddes, no assist.). Mauritz and No.46 from the Dingoes (Peter Morton) were each given a 2min bench penalty for “Roughing” and Ben Mitchell was given a 2 minute bench penalty for “High Stick”(16mins24, codes 504 and 206). This left the team down to three field players and Jake in goals. We held the Dingoes out, they didn’t score for the entirety of their Power Play. Upon Mauritz and Bens return to the rink Dingoes No.48 Andrew Cathie was given a 2min bench penalty for “Incorrect Hit,” (18mins53) which gave us a long-awaited chance to get the score board ticking over in our favour. Keith converted assisted by Jimmy in the last 30 seconds of the match (19mins30).

A great win!
8-1 (3-0, 4-0, 1-1)

This weeks A Div match was against Pirates White, aka Buccaneers. It was an intense match from the start with Jake making 6 saves in the first period. The Buccaneers were giving it their all from word go, which put their No.7, Mike van Noort in the sin bin for ‘Incorrect Hit’ for 2 mins at 6mins09. This gave us a good opportunity to score and Mauritz wasn’t going to let that pass! He fired the ball into the goal to put us into the lead with 1-0 (7mins07, assist No.30 Jimmy Laurell). Our lead was short-lived because the Buccaneers scored closely after us at 10mins54, putting it passed our defense at close range (No.6, Brad Girvan, assist No.8 Jake York).

The second period started off with another 2min bench penalty to the Buccaneers – this time their No.5, Ed Williams, for ‘Hands/Arm’. Our No.27, Kieth Tan, was ready for a little fun and maybe a kitchen…hanging around the back of the goals during the Power-Play he Zorro’d a goal and stole a kitchen from the Buccaneer defense! (4mins34, no assist). During this time another delayed 2min bench penalty was called against Buccaneers. No.7 was penalised for ‘Incorrect Push’ so the Buccaneers were still down one man despite No.5 being excused from the bench (4mins34). Keith had decided it was his day, so he scored another from just in front of the goals (5mins45, assist No.11 David Westlund). This put us in the lead, 3-1. During the second period Oli Diffen and Adrian Baster made their debuts in an A match for the season. Oli fired off a rocket of a shot which was caught by Buccaneers goalie, Michael Bircher. Our defense was getting a run for its money as the Buccaneers were desperate to even the scoreline, but it wasn’t to be. Jake, Pat and Shane had it covered. Pat made a huge five blocks in the second period alone and Shane made five throughout the game. It was a top effort from the defense in the second period – Buccaneers didn’t put one past us.

The scoring in the third period started with a turn-over in our defense by Jimmy at 3mins. Jimmy put the ball in the net, assisted by Mauritz to take the scoreline to 4-1 (3mins04). It was an intense period. The Buccaneers were desperate to score and they were trying their best to put us under pressure. The adrenaline was flowing and Lucas gave an Incorrect Push which landed him a 2min bench penalty (13mins33). Our defense was tight as and no goals were conceded during the Short Handed Play. Lucas quickly made up for his momentary loss of control by roofing the ball into the Buccaneer net 14 seconds after he stepped off the penalty bench, assisted by our No.15 Espen Kjerup Jorgenson (15mins47). Shortly thereafter David had a moment in the spotlight with an almost casual wrist-shot of the ball into the left-hand-side of the net, bringing our score up to 6-1 (16mins20, no assist). The Buccaneers kept fighting it out and managed one more goal before the end of the period at 17mins11 (No.6, Brad Girvan, assist No.7 Mike van Noort). We should be proud of our efforts in the third period with 24 shots, exactly double the number of the Buccaneers shots, including a very close miss by Espen on a Short-Handed Play. Well Done!

Hi Everyone

In a challenging second match for the season our A’s boys had to fight hard for their win vs Pirates Black this week.

Pirates were the first on the scoreboard, scoring in just under 7 minutes into the first period. However, this was not an omen for the game: Lucas, Mauritz and Jimmy led the rest of the team to a 2-1 win over the first period. (Goal 1: Lucas, assist Jimmy, Goal 2: Mauritz, assist Jimmy).

In the second and third periods it was neck-and-neck on the scoreboard. Mauritz started it off at 2mins10sec (3-1) , assisted by Jimmy, then the Pirates scored shortly after at 3mins (3-2). It was a fierce match throughout the second period, both goalies were being hammered by the offense of the opposing teams. Pirates player No 6 (Tom Dunn) received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Playing Lying Down’ which gave the Sharks a chance to get further ahead but alas, our very own Jimmy Laurell was given a 2min bench penalty for ‘Pushing’ in a 50/50 ball contest when he sent Captain of the Pirates, Jonathon Veron, flying into the boards. This left the teams 4-a-piece for what felt like the longest minute of the game. It wasn’t until both teams were back to full strength that our Captain, Patrick Baster, managed to get the ball rolling again. Assisted by Mauritz, Pat sent one flying into the right hand side of the net to set our score to 4-2 (12mins32). Pirates crept back to 4-3 by the end of the second period thanks to their No. 22, Martin Albrecht.

After assisting everyone else Jimmy scored his first goal for the game early in the third period, assisted by Shane (5-3, 2min09). Again Pirates crept the score back at 3mins to make it 5-4. Benny Mitch wasn’t so keen on the Pirates getting their way, so he went for a run up forwards in his Cannonball way and converted! (6-4, 5mins43, assist Lucas Westlund) At 7mins48 Pirates received a 2min bench penalty for ‘Header’, sat by their No.8. This was a good opportunity for Sharks to increase that score difference but it wasn’t to be. Jonathon Veron scored a one-on-one short-handed goal (6-5, 9mins05, no assist). The tension of the game was peaking, Benny Mitch thought we were behind so he revved everyone up to take more chances to score. In the 14th minute Pirates was penalised for ‘Repeated Offences’ during a goal-scoring opportunity for the Sharks. Our team was awarded a penalty shot and Albrecht received a 2min bench penalty. Jimmy took the penalty shot and converted, slipping it past Pirate Goalie-Jason Petty’s left to bring the score to 7-5 (14mins41, no assist). The Pirates did not give in. They continued to fight for a win until the last seconds of the game. It was an immensely entertaining match to watch. Well done Everyone.

7-5 (2-1, 2-2, 3-2)

Hi Everyone

I’m Rebecca Wood, manager of the Sharks A’s. I’d just like to say a big welcome to everyone for the new season, A players and B players alike. I’ll be sending you all emails about what time to be at the games on Sundays and I’ll try to give a report on each of the games in the following week.

This week Sharks A’s and B’s made a notable entrance into the new season. The B’s led the way for the A’s, smashing the Redbacks B’s with a 9-1 win! Steve Broome, our B’s Captain should be proud of the efforts the B’s boys put in, especially Morgan Emms (1 goal, 2 assists), Nicolas Yeoh (2 goals, 1 assist) and Oli Diffen (3 goals). Our other point scorers were Steve Broome – 1 goal, Justin Blades – 1 goal, and Adrian Baster – 1 assist. A fantastic start to the new season and hopefully a foreshadow for the rounds to come! Well Done guys, all that training is really coming in handy, let’s keep it up!

The A’s faced a hard game vs the Redbacks A’s on Sunday, it was definitely a nail-biter for those on the sideline! We ended up with a win, 4-3. The score-line was 1-1, 3-0, 0-2 (Sharks – Redbacks for periods 1, 2 & 3). The first period was a bit of a shock to the system when we found the floor as slippery as ice – Mauritz can tell you all about it: he had to sit a 2min penalty for Playing Lying Down. We soon adjusted to the new conditions and had a convincing second period followed by some unlucky goals conceded in the third period. Our team Captain this year is Pat Baster, congratulations Pat. Point scorers this week were Shane Abbott – 1 assist, Mauritz Hermansson – 1 goal, David Westlund – 1 goal, Keith Tan – 1 goal, and Jimmy Laurell – 1 goal, 2 assists. Great work Sharks!

Next weeks games will be at the same time, B’s will play at 2:30, please get to Lords before 2pm and the A’s will play at 4pm, please get to Lords before 3:30pm to warm up, team talk, etc.

That’s it from me for now. I hope to see you all at training on Tuesday night, 6:30pm at Newman College.

Cheers
