Round 6 A’s Match Report

Round Six was upon us, the Revolution Sharks were up against the Redbacks once again. In Round One The Redbacks fell to the Sharks in a tight game where they nearly regained control in the last period. (4-3: 1-1, 3-0, 0-2) Was it going to be as close a game this time around?

The first period started out well for the Sharks, with Captain Pat Baster #13 scoring the first goal, unassisted at 4mins35. He was followed shortly by Sharks #15, Espen Kjerup Jorgensen, who scored at 6mins50, also unassisted. Redbacks #7, Anthony Boteler upset the umpires with his protesting and was given a 2min bench penalty for just that, “Protesting” at 6mins58. The Sharks wore down the Redbacks defence for just over a minute before Sharks player #11 David Westlund slotted the ball into the goal, assisted by #30, Jimmy Laurell at 8mins00. The rest of the period was intense and the Sharks were unlucky not to score another goal. Redbacks #32, Timothy Boteler scored in a breakaway goal, unassisted, at 16mins56.

The second period started with another bench penalty served by the Redbacks. This time it was served by R#13, Cameron Devine for “Incorrect Substitution” (2mins04). It took the Sharks only 24 seconds to find a hole in the Redbacks defense, scoring at 2mins28, #2 Lucas Westlund converted assisted by #30, Jimmy. It took the Redbacks five minutes to get the ball back down their end of the court and score a goal (7mins38, goal R#44 Marcus O’Neill, assist R#84 Glen Holland). The second half of the period was dominated by the Sharks. The Redbacks defense was under fire, being hammered again and again by the Sharks offense. Redbacks goalie #91 Josh Davey was having a brilliant game, pulling saves that weren’t thought possible! The Sharks did not score again in the second period.

Adrian Baster (#6) made the most of the first 8 seconds of the third period, scoring our fifth goal for the game unassisted. He certainly gave the Redbacks a shock! Lucas and Don did a good job of backing up Adrian’s goal at 3mins00, (goal #2 Lucas, assist #10 Don O’Brien.) The next goal of the period was from Espen, assisted by Jimmy at 10mins20. Pat obtained a 2min bench penalty for “Incorrect Hit” at 14mins48. The Redbacks certainly didn’t take advantage of the PowerPlay situation, almost conceding a goal three times thanks to break away chances by Espen and Mauritz. After a quick sub, Lucas did manage to score during a Redbacks Power Play, assisted by David (16mins53). In the last seconds of the period Redbacks scored their third goal, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Sharks (19mins48, goal R#44 Marcus O’Neill, assist R#32 Timothy Boteler).

A huge improvement on the first round!
